Fresh from a wildly successful, energy-filled season in Ibiza, DJ Lea Dobricic is set to bring her high-octane style to 'Iris Sundown'(Yas Island) on Friday 25th September.
The charismatic, uber talented Lea has been in the music business since 2005, sharing decks along the way with some of the biggest names in the electronic music scene including Laurent Garnier, Dubfire, Marco Carola, Silicone Soul and John Digweed.
Lea is the first female DJ to appear at Iris Sundown and joins Iris's wall of fame alongside names such as Rosario Internullo, Lee Burridge and Adrian Eftimie.
We caught up with Lea ahead of her gig here in Abu Dhabi.
Lea greetings from Abu Dhabi, you've just come off a season in Ibiza how were things on the Island?
Greetings back to you from Serbia. :)
Ibiza is incredible island full of great energy all around.
I really enjoy coming back there every year and it is always amazing!
Is this your first time out here to play in the Middle East?
Yes it is and I can't describe how happy and excited I am! Can't wait to share my music with you.
Tell us about your journey into DJing?
I was only 11 years old when I first came in touch with turntables, vinyl and electronic music, but my DJ journey started much later when I moved to Italy in 2005. I was studying and working as a waitress. That way I managed to collect enough money to buy my own mixer and turntables and finally start practicing for what I always wanted to do…to play music :)
For a couple of years I was playing in some cocktail bars and small parties, trying to make a name for myself but it was very difficult in the begginig. Only years after, my first success came and it was in 2010 when I won Stefano Noferini remix contest. More gig requests started to come my way and the first big one was for Exit Festival, which is now one of the best European festivals. Finally in 2013 I entered my mix for the Burn residency contest and I won a residency in the prestigious Ibiza club Privilege, on Elrow parties. I was living on the island the whole summer, playing at amazing parties and meeting all the right people from the industry. It was really place to be and from there my life completely changed. It was long journey but I feel it was just the beginning and there is yet so much more to come.
Having played all over Europe with some fantastic DJs, what has been your most memorable gig?
It is so hard to say because there were so many amazing gigs. Some of the best are Exit festival, Love fest, Monegros, Kazantip, Elrow parties on Ibiza and in Barcelona, Marco Faraone and friends in Sicily and many many more. Now I can finally say I am living my dream, traveling a lot, playing music, meeting so many great people and their cultures…. I am very grateful for that.
What can we expect for those that might be looking to come down to see you?
You can expect that I will take you to a nice musical ride filled with positive energy. Lots of groove and massive basses. Prepare to dance and don't forget to bring your smile :)
Sum up your musical style in the length of a tweet.
Mixture of deep house, tech house and techno; explosion of energy!
If you could share the stage/decks with one artist who would it be?
There are so many Dj's I respect a lot and I would like to share decks with. Laurent Garnier is definitely on the first place. But right after him are Maceo Plex, Chris Liebing, Marco Carola, Dubfire and many more.
And finally, where can we find out more about you?
